Wind Power: Maglev Wind Turbine
Wind Power is a renewable energy source that has real world applications. The energy produced by wind has been taken advantage of for close to 6,000 years. Most windmills, even to the present day, were used to grind corn and for water retrieval. The new windmill is capable of cranking out enough power to supply 750,000 homes with power.
They are currently developing one in china called the Maglev Wind Turbine. Magnetic levitation is an extremely efficient system for wind energy. Here’s how it works: the vertically oriented blades of the wind turbine are suspended in the air above the base of the machine, replacing the need for ball bearings. The turbine uses “full-permanent” magnets, not electromagnets — therefore, it does not require electricity to run. The full-permanent magnet system employs neodymium (”rare earth”) magnets and there is no energy loss through friction. This also helps reduce maintenance costs and increases the life span of the generator.
Wind Power is here to stay and is just another way for Green Technology to help keep our planet’s environment clean and maintain power supplies. Wind Power and the Maglev Wind Turbine is a Green Earth Friend.
Here’s a video of the monster Maglev Wind Turbine in action.
