Climate Changes: Mega Disasters In Our Recent Past
Climate Changes have lead to some mega disasters in our recent past. When researching these climate changes, we focused on weather trends, especially temperature changes from the early 1900’s. We discovered some information about natural disasters from 1900 to 1950. It is astounding the death toll between those years and the cause of most of the deaths that occurred. Some may say, that how we are suffering now, is bleak in comparison to some of the things that make up our natural disaster history.
Here is the break down of these mega disasters from 1900 to1950:
We lost to drowning: 10,495 People drowned in hurricanes and flooding due to massive amounts of rain.
Death By Hailstone: 51 people. 6 that were just kids. They were pummeled by hailstones that were the largest ever recorded at a whopping 2lbs. Many cattle were also killed.
Death By Tornado: 21,877 mostly in the USA.
Death by hurricanes and cyclones: 46,950.
Death By Volcanoes: 550.
Death By Earthquake: A whopping 338,000 people died in earthquakes around the globe.
Temperature records between 1900 and 1950:
High Record for the Netherlands at 96.8 degrees in May.
High Record for Cleveland, Ohio at 88 degrees in April.
High Record for Cleveland, Ohio at 73 degrees in February.
High Record for Seattle, Washington at 100 degrees.
Temperature rises 49 degrees in 2 minutes in Spearfish South Dakota.
Heatwave highest temperatures ever recorded in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana.
350 million tons of top soil blows from the Great Planes to The Eastern Seaboard, named the Great Dust Bowl Storm. Another dust storm ravages the Great Planes, a year later, earning the name Black Sunday.
112 foot wave, not a tsunami, hits in the Manila area, South Pacific, making it the largest wave ever recorded.
So as you can see, we had a pretty active 50 years not so long ago, maybe a lot of these disasters could have been avoided by using early warning devices that we make use of today, however that is a lot of death and destruction for a small span of time that is weather related. Let us all take note of our Climate Changes and do what we can to help lessen these dramatic changes.
