Green Inauguration For President Barack Obama

obama inauguration Green Inauguration For President Barack ObamaToday marks the greenest inauguration in history.  The 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, will take office today.  Food and drinks at the event will be organic.  Vegans will be fully taken care of and all the garbage from the event will be recycled and composted.  That should help with the approximate 520,000,000 pounds of co2 that will be emitted by the millions of people attending the inauguration.  From Jets to motorcycles and gas guzzling SUV’s, millions of people descend upon the nations capital to see Barack Obama assume his new role as president.

Every new president deserves such attention to get rolling in the right direction.  It’s just a shame that it has to cause the planet such hardship.  It will probably take years for Barack Obama to offset the carbon emissions released in this momentous occasion.  It is a good sign that so many people spent the money to go and  see the inauguration.  Is it a sign that Americans have enough trust in our new president to start spending again?  The next few months will tell the tale of our fate.

Here are three of the quotes about the environment Barack Obama said today:

“the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet”

“We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories.”

“With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat and roll back the spectre of a warming planet.”

barack obama Green Inauguration For President Barack ObamaThese being some of the few positive environmental quotes that we have heard from a president lately and something to look forward to in this horrible economy.  This  president demonstrates hope in a dismal time in America’s history.  Anyway congratulations Barack Obama and may your time as president be as productive as everybody hopes it will be.  Here  is more of what our new president had to say.

“Humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors.” “Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred,”  “Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost, jobs shed, businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly, our schools fail too many, and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.”

“Today, I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. Everywhere we look, there is work to be done.”

“Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and begin again the work of remaking America.”

  1. Obama took up his office with a lot of class — a good way to start

  2. Great three quotes. Here’s to a better future!

Reading your blog and, a bit cheeky I know, wondered if you might agree to contribute a comment on my post below about 0% Gross Domestic/National Product, business and the environment. It’s set to go wider.
